Associates

Who are Associates?

Associates are lay persons, single or married, who seek a deeper relationship with God through a formal relationship with the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity. He or she chooses a life based on the Rule of Francis while continuing to live and work elsewhere.

Associates of the Sisters of St. Francis on the Rosebud Reservation

Over 130 lay persons are Associates of the Sisters of St. Francis and are working in Nebraska, North and South Dakota, and Colorado.

Associates come from all walks of life - architects, nurses, teachers, businessmen and businesswomen. We value the talents and gifts Associates bring to the community, whether joining us for retreats, prayer, celebrations, or work.

St. Francis Mission Associates:
Rose Knox, Sandra Dillon

Associates join the community of the Sisters of St. Francis to deepen their relationships with themselves, others and God.

Many seek to work with a community that is actively involved in seeking peace and justice, reaching out to the poor and the disadvantaged. Others join to discover a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in their lives.

Involvement with the community's ministries often simplifies one's life, providing a deeper sense of indeed being "our brother's and our sister's keeper."

"I have been an associate of the Sisters of St. Francis for seventeen years. I have experienced a new richness in my prayer life as I walk the paths of Francis and Magdalen. It is hard to describe-almost mystical. Somehow, it seems to fill a deep call I have to come closer to God, especially in the company of such holy and humble women as guides."
