While most of the Marycrest Franciscan Ministries serve the people of greater Denver, there is a very special ministry on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. In response to a strong need for loving foster care, St. Francis Home was founded under the direction of Sister Geraldine Clifford, an Ogalala Lakota. Sister Geraldine grew up on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and knew that the home was needed.

The Pine Ridge Reservation is the poorest area in our nation. Unemployment exceeds 80%; there are no substantial natural resources to support the people. Per capita annual income is less than $4000; these Native Americans are worse off than those in many Third World countries. Life expectancy is 20 years less and heart disease deaths are twice as high as in other parts of our country.

St. Francis Home is a licensed home for abused and neglected children of the Lakota people. The home offers an environment that promotes physical, psychological, emotional, cultural, spiritual and social growth and stability.
