Marycrest Campus to be Developed into Affordable Housing
The Marycrest Sister of St. Francis, located at 2851 W. 52nd
Avenue in Denver, CO, have announced plans to develop their
26 acre, northwest Denver Campus into low-income and affordable
housing. The Sisters are currently negotiating with Mercy Housing
to develop the campus.
In making the announcement, Sister Karen Crouse, OSF, the Sisters'
Provincial Minister commented: "As we begin this exciting
new project to broaden our mission of outreach to those in need,
we also continue the mission of St. Francis through our many
other ministries including Marycrest Assisted Living, St. Francis
Home on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, and through
the many outreach ministries of our individual Sisters who minister
to underserved populations here in Denver, throughout the country
and around the world. Our passion to serve God's people continues
to burn strongly within our Sisters and this rebirth of our
Marycrest property will fan the flame of our mission to burn
more brightly than ever."
The Sisters of St. Francis acquired the property in 1938 to
serve as their provincial headquarters. Over the years, the
campus has housed a girl's high school, transitional housing
for women and children, and a food and clothing bank. Assisted
Living for senior citizens as well as for younger disabled and
dependent adults will continue to operate on the campus.
Melinda Pollack from Mercy Housing, a faith-based non-profit
corporation commented, "We are honored to have the opportunity
to redevelop the Marycrest campus with a plan that reflects
the Sisters of St. Francis' and Mercy Housing's common mission
and values. We're confident that the result of this effort will
be a beautiful campus that meets community needs."
Marycrest will continue their ministries to the poor, the frail
and the marginalized.
