Since 1917,
the Sisters of St. Francis have provided compassionate and healing
service to the Denver community, especially to the poor and underprivileged.
The Sisters of St. Francis came to Denver in 1917 to operate and staff St. Elizabeth's Grade School. We have developed many ministries since then. Our Damen Project consists of Damen House, Damen House Children's Center, and Marycrest Resource Center.
The Marycrest
Resource Center was started in 1965 as the Marycrest Food and
Clothing Bank to provide referral and information services, as
well as lodging for the homeless.
As the needs
of the Denver community changed, the Marycrest Resource Center
has evolved into an "empowerment model". Marycrest Resource Center
promotes selfsufficiency by providing education and support services
to over 500 families and individuals each month. Services include
life skill classes, vocational training, computer labs, assessment
and referral information, as well as emergency food and clothing.
The "empowerment
model" of service means working more intensely with each person.
We guide people toward "sustenance" as a stepping stone, helping
low income families and individuals obtain selfsufficiency.

Sewing
Circle
The
Sewing Circle is a development cooperative which provides clients
with life-skills training and support that assist them in becoming
economically selfsufficient. Women are trained on-site to do piece
work and make various craft items which teach them the skills
to set up and market their own businesses and supplement their
incomes. The group meets each Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9am
to noon.

If you are interested in participating, volunteering or making
a donation of sewing materials, please contact:
